The painting equipment you need to succeed
Before you even get started, there are materials and materials, there's good and there's bad, so avoid buying unnecessary equipment. But then! How to choose? Don't worry, I'll guide you through the essential painting materials, but not only that - you'll save money!
Canvas mounted on stretcher
- Work plan
- Acrylic paint
- Oil painting
- Texture paste
- Brushes
- Knives
- Combs
- Paint drying and storage
What type of support are we going to use?
We mainly use canvas mounted on stretchers, although many others exist (cardboard, wood...), but it's the most widely used standard in the 21st century. Several types of canvas can be used, including cotton, polyester and linen.
And what type of paint?
We mainly use acrylic paint, but also oil paint in certain cases. When making your choice, pay close attention to the quality of the paint you choose. Good paint is essential to the success of your work, so avoid the cheap stuff! Beyond the choice of quality, there are differences in rendering: gloss, matte, transparent, opaque...
Acrylic painting courses
Acrylic paint is the most widely used paint, far more resistant than natural resins, much easier to use and can be applied to any surface: canvas, wood, paper, cardboard, plastic, metal... A little less fine than watercolor and a little less noble than oil, acrylic is the most suitable paint for starting to paint or for progressing at present.
Unlike oil paint, it doesn't stain, and the drying time is much shorter, allowing you to work with overlapping layers of paint. During my painting lessons, you'll realize that the possibilities are endless and the effects surprising, and after two coats of varnish the result is impeccable.
Oil Painting Courses
Oil painting is a very complex traditional technique, but can be simple depending on the method used. Widely used in figurative art, it can be applied to a variety of supports: canvas, wood, cardboard and glass.
Once mastered, oil painting delivers impressive results, but it's also the most time-consuming and rigorous. Indeed, it can take months to complete a painting because of the drying time, and only the alla prima method speeds up the process.
The Essential Painting Tool
If you've decided to take painting lessons, you'll need the right brushes. Short handles allow for precision, while long ones allow you to step back and take a closer look at your work. The quality and type of bristle will have a decisive role to play in the practice and method employed, as will the tip of the brush from a technical point of view. In any case, rest assured that I'll guide you step by step in your training as a painter.
Accessories for developing your art
Among the most useful accessories, we have the easel, very practical for working or exhibiting your work. They come in all sizes, with different functions depending on use:
- Workshop tripod easels
- Workshop easel with H-shaped base
- Country easel
- Table stand
We also have the painting knife, a tool used to obtain certain shapes or effects, allowing you to work with paint like sculpture. That said, there are many other accessories available to perfect your art, and the list is long. Of course, you'll need to perfect your technique to use them correctly.
